Everyone has to have them in order to travel to any other country. I am not sure that I like that. They make you pay a whole ton of money just to get your picture in a little booklet. It seems to me like they should stick with things that prove you are a US citizen. If we stuck with birth certificates and driver's licenses, we could probably do just as well. They might even do it better than a passport might. A passport is very easy to fake. I just don't like the whole idea of a passport and interrogation that precedes it whenever I take the time to leave the country for any reason.
