Don’t fall for this scam
A lot of people are discovering that recycling old cell phones with services like Cell For Cash (cellforcash.com) is a great way to not only put a little bit of extra cash in their pockets, but to stem the tide of consumer electronics pollution that is cluttering landfills across the nation. With just a small amount of effort, you can make a green difference.
However, when it comes to cell phones, there are some shenanigans going on that have attracted the attention of the long arm of the law. Sure, we all want to pay less on our cell phone bills, but who wants to have to take out installment loans or other short term loans just to keep up with monthly cell phone charges? Not Gary Morrow and Timothy Flowers of Overland Park, Kansas. Their scheme to erase Sprint customers’ bills has landed them in jail.
An inside job
Fox 4 Kansas City reports that Johnson County prosecutors have charged Morrow with “stealing more than $100,000 from the Sprint Corporation.” Prosecutors also say he “eliminated cell phone bills” for many Sprint customers. He worked the scam in tandem with Flowers. Prosecutors charged Morrow, 44, with felony theft.
