They look just like mountains but they have like a crater cut out of the top of them where this really hot melted liquid comes out of. Their magma chambers have to go deep into the ground so that lava can come up and flow out of the top. At Snow Canyon Park in southern Utah you can go inside some of the lava chambers and climb down them pretty far. My friends and I would go down to the bottom of them, crack some glow sticks, and then turn off all our flashlights and talk until the glow from the glow sticks disappeared. It was really fun.
