Veterans Day is a holiday that is almost forgotten but that is really so important. A veteran is a person who has served in the United States armed forces.

A veteran can be an ex member of the army, air force, marines, navy, coast guard, or national guard. A war veteran is someone who while serving, has served during a war.

Now-a-days, veterans seem to have gained more respect than they did during times like the Vietnam War. Abraham Lincoln, back in 1865, taught the American people to respect our veterans.

During the Civil War, veterans groups were formed. Veterans should be respected. They are heroes. They protect our freedom. They are willing to die so that you and I can be free.

Have you ever stopped to think where our country would be with no veterans? Besides, many of us get a day off work, thanks to the Veterans.

Veterans Day, 2009 is November 11. If you know of a veteran, thank him or her. Estimates are that by 2010, 40% of the veterans will be women.

Think, do you have a parent, a sibling, a cousin, or a relative who is a veteran. Give him a hug and thank him for serving our country. And look for all the free gifts out there for Veterans.

In our neighborhood, Golden Corral and the Outback restaurants are giving free dinners to Veterans. They deserve this free dinner and so much more.
