Is Nexus One vs. Droid up to fate?
When I got up for work yesterday, I was planning to buy a Droid. When I got up for work today, I was planning to buy a Droid. Until about 30 minutes ago, I was planning to buy a Droid. Now, my plan is that after my paycheck is deposited tomorrow (so I don’t have to borrow money), I am going to buy a Nexus One.
Is it because I love Google? No. (At least, that isn’t the reason. Who doesn’t love Google?) Is it because I want to be the owner of the new, hot thing that everyone is talking about? No, actually, that was the thing that kept me from changing my mind for the first six hours I was at work reading all about the Nexus One.
Turned off by the hype
I’m not the type to get sucked in by hype. I am also not the type who is tempted by new, flashy gadgets. In fact, I’ve had the same phone for almost five years. I frequently have to remind people that I cannot take or receive pictures with my phone. So I was not at all swayed by the fact that lots of other people are excited about the Nexus One and the Google marketing machine is out in full force.
However, after all of the information was in, I had to stop and think about whether I should stick with my previous decision to get a Droid or whether Nexus One was a better choice for me.
A different type of brand loyalty
So, one of the things about Nexus One that Google is touting as superior to other smartphone options is that you can use it with any carrier, unlike the Droid, which you can only use with Verizon.
