Every year there are a few “American Idol” auditions that stand out even though the would-be contestants don’t make it to the next round. Last year, “bikini girl” was invited to be on the “American Idol” finale, and this year I think we’ll see the composer of the original song “Pants on the Ground.”

Larry Platt, 62, auditioned for “American Idol” on last night’s show, and although he is 34 years too old to try out, the judges heard him out anyway. Larry Platt sang a song he wrote, “Pants on the Ground,” for the judges and did choreography to boot. Watch the video at the end of this post.

Internet explosion

Just like that, Larry Platt and “Pants on the Ground” are more popular than military loans. Everyone is searching for “Pants on the Ground” online, and there’s already a Facebook fan page for “Pants on the Ground.” Even more amazingly, just one day after the song debuted on “American Idol,” there’s a “Pants on the Ground” T-shirt, complete with an image of Larry Platt.

All of the judges obviously really appreciated “Pants on the Ground.” Of course, Simon Cowell said something snarky referring to how repetitive it was, but Mary J. Blige was laughing so hard she had tears in her eyes.
