Desperate Housewives sued for assault by Nicollette Sheridan

Nicollette Sheridan liked playing Edie Britt on “Desperate Housewives.” For the flirtatious, man-eating Ms. Britt, it was suitable to be voluntarily smacked around within the bedroom. But being smacked around by the producers of the program behind the scenes and terminated without good cause didn’t make for a good day on Wisteria Lane.

According to the New York Times, Nicollette Sheridan is suing the producers of “Desperate Housewives” for assault and wrongful termination, and they might need paydayloans to help with the lawsuit.

What happened, and was Nicollette Sheridan’s character killed over it?

Nicollette Sheridan’s lawsuit claims that back in September 2008, Marc Cherry, creator of the popular nighttime soap opera, struck her when Sheridan purportedly asked Cherry about a line in the script. According to the Associated Press, Marc Cherry’s alleged response was to take Nicollette Sheridan aside and “forcefully hit her with his hand across her face and head.”

Nicollette Sheridan went directly to ABC to complain about Marc Cherry’s alleged violent treatment, but her pleas are described to have fallen on deaf ears. It was not long after that when Edie Britt was killed off the show. Sheridan believes it was retaliation by ABC because she dared to “make a fuss.”

How did Edie Britt die?

No, it wasn’t a jilted lover or lover’s wife or girlfriend seeking revenge. It ended with a patented deadly vehicle crash, as Zap2It outlines in the fateful 2009 episode of “Desperate Housewives.” Edie swerved to avoid Orson, who was “running across the street after one of his breaking and enterings.” Edie’s auto struck a utility pole, and she was electrocuted by the power lines that fell to the puddle of water where her body laid. Collision and electrocution did her in, a real double whammy.

That episode was followed by a flashback episode in which the “Desperate Housewives” remember Nicollette Sheridan’s character. Interestingly, in two of the flashbacks (Lynette’s and Bree’s), Edie “smacks” some sense into them so they can find the strength to face their problems. When Edie’s son Travis finds out about her death and is barely fazed, Mrs. McCluskey “smacks” some sense into him. The final smack came when Mrs. McCluskey “smacks down” Edie for her attempt to sympathize with McCluskey over having lost a son.

It’s smacking coincidence, isn’t it?

Considering Nicollette Sheridan’s experience with Marc Cherry, it’s an interesting word choice on the part of Zap2It. The episode aired more than likely before the smack down was public knowledge, so it could possibly be coincidental. But Edie’s death itself was explained away in Gabby’s flashback from the exact same episode, where Nicollette Sheridan’s character confided that she was going to die before she was 50. Oh ABC, how convenient. We’ll see if Nicollette Sheridan smacks you down, and whether you’ll need secured loans.
