Anna Fermanova accused of weapons smuggling

Anna Chapman is old news, America; there’s a new Russian spy around, with Latvian origins. Anna Fermanova, a 24-year-old native of Latvia, has mesmerized Facebook enthusiasts and allegedly stolen military-grade components. Fermanova is alleged to have sent a military grade Raptor 4X Night Vision Weapons sight to her spouse in Moscow unlawfully, reports the New York Daily News. Fermanova was arrested at her parents’ suburban Dallas home July 15, roughly a month after her most recent trip to Moscow to visit her husband. It ‘looks a lot worse than it really is,’ claims Anna Fermanova’s legal representative

”She’s a nice Jewish girl who lives with her sweet Latvian father and mother. There is no terrorism link. There’s no espionage,” claims Scott Palmer, Anna Fermanova’s lawyer. Unfortunately, a confidential informant dropped a dime on Fermanova with immigration, clueing them in to the alleged illegal smuggling procedure. Federal authorities who stopped Fermanova at Kennedy Airport before she boarded her flight for Moscow found a $ 7,000 Raptor 4X Night Vision Weapons Sight and two other sights worth $ 4,000 apiece.

According to reports, Fermanova told authorities she’d purchased the scopes online for her husband’s hunting party in Russia. After being told that bringing such gear out of the country was illegal without the proper license, Fermanova told authorities that she’d signed some paperwork, but could not tell them what it had been for. Clearly, it was not an exporter’s license.

Fermanova admits to removing serial numbers from the scopes

Fermanova reportedly used a black marker to cover up the serial numbers on the night vision scopes. She simply said she did that so the numbers would be “less noticeable,” but agents became suspect. While the authorities did allow Fermanova to go to Moscow without the scopes, they later took her passport and arrested her when she returned to America. She was charged with “knowingly and intentionally attempting to export defense articles on the United States Munitions list”. That carries a 10-year prison term, indicates the Daily News. At this moment, Anna Fermanova is under house arrest in her parents’ home, which was made possible when $ 50,000 bail was posted.

She once forged a check

Fermanova had a previous scrape with the law than involved a $ 76 forged check in 2003. A fine and 3 years’ probation were the result for the previous beauty school student and English instructor. When Fermanova was a cosmetology student, she took numerous pictures of herself that made it to Facebook. This attention is not dissimilar to the ogling Anna Chapman received over her own sexy photographs.
