New crash assessment results are out from the govt. The newest scoring system utilizes a 5 star scale. In the first round of testing, there were only two five-star automobiles. The five star ratings went solely to the Bavarian Motor Works 5 series and also the Hyundai Sonata. The initial round of testing put 34 autos through crash testing, including a brand new sliding side impact collision assessment.
Brand new standards made for collision tests
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration came out and changed some things. The crash test rating system was one of these things. Instead of the usual one to four star scale, it is now one to five. USA Today reports the first round of screening ended today. The first round of screening had numerous automobiles. About 34 vehicles were part of it. The second round will test 22 more. The brand new rating system changes other things. Criteria is going to be stricter as well. There is also a new test. Side collision when skidding could be tested. Collision avoidance systems such as electronic stability was also tested by the NHTSA. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration also urges individuals not to compare the earlier standards to the new standards.
Bavarian Motor Works and Hyundai get ratings at the very top
There were only two five-star crash tested vehicles. The Bavarian Motor Works 5 series and the Hyundai Motors Sonata were the only vehicles to warrant a perfect five-star collision test. Also, only three automobiles did really badly. They received less than a four. The Camry Hybrid and the Toyota Motors Camry both got a three star rating with the collision test. This past year the Camry did the best. It got the highest ratings available. The lowest scores came from the Nissan Versa. Four out of five stars was given to the other cars.
More testing to complete
There was only the first round of assessments done. That’s where these results come from. There are more than 22 cars that still need to go via crash testing from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. Safecar.gov is where the facts are. That is where you are able to find the whole list of ratings.
