General Motors began the assembly line for the Chevy Volt at its Detroit-Hamtramck plant on Tuesday. Chevy Volts will be hard to spot on the streets initially, because GM only plans to make 10,000 in 2011. After winning awards even before being made accessible to the general public, many think the Chevy Volt can be a large hit for General Motors.
Chevy Volt makes General Motors balance out
The business image for GM was tarnished after the bankruptcy. GM hopes that this will change while it becomes the leading electric automaker using the Chevy Volt for help. The celebrities are not what the Volt was made for as it is said to be for the average American at a price of $41,000 before electric vehicle tax breaks. Many analysts suggest there will not be the normal "range anxiety" that comes when individuals buy electric cars that only have battery power. They said this is because the Volt has a special battery-gas engine. GM has tried to strike an equilibrium between expensive innovation and conventional economy with the Volt. The electric car race will put the Volt ahead more than likely. It can adapt to other models with the technology inside it.
The main difference with the Volt
The four-door sedan Volt does not look like a typical electric vehicle. But what makes it stand apart is the distinctive power train. The electric motor on the Volt has 150-hp. The four cylinder motor is 1.4 liters too. There is no connection to the drive train with the gas engine though. When the Volt reaches its battery range of 40 miles, the gas motor generates electricity to drive the electric motor. The Volt can go about 344 miles with this "extended-range mode". The 100 percent battery-powered Nissan Motors Leaf introduced this year has an estimated range of 73 miles.
Car manufacturers adoring the Volt quite a bit
Recently, the Volt has seen good news. You will find developments to help it out. Electric vehicle buyers can get a $7,500 tax credit. Plus, the Volt is getting lots of good PR. Green Auto Journal has named the Volt the 2011 Green Auto of the Year — the first electric car the magazine has awarded the honor. The vehicle is called an "idea" by the Automobile Magazine which called the volt the 2011 Automobile of the year.
