Chrysler Motors fires 13 staff in aftermath of scandal

A whistleblower news report involved Chrysler in a scandal over the actions of plant workers. There was a small group of people from a Chrysler plant that had some questionable habits during their lunch break. A group of men would go to a nearby recreation area on break to drink and use drugs. The actions were revealed when a news station in Detroit was tipped off and investigated the activities in question. After the men were caught, a scandal began to brew, which Chrysler swore to resolve. Chrysler acted easily. Not long following the report aired, the people in question were all put on suspension. There are 2 of the individuals involved nevertheless on suspension, when 13 others have been let go.

Consuming and working isn’t recommended

A tip was received by Detroit Fox affiliate WJBK 2 regarding the workers from the Jefferson North Chrysler Motors plant, according to USA Today. The plant assembles the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The station was tipped off that workers from the plant would go to a local park to drink beer and smoke what appeared to be weed. The ritual went on for five consecutive days, until an anchor asked them what the heck they were doing. At that point, the men fled back to the plant. The sting comes at a pretty inconvenient time. Obama not too long ago concluded a visit to the same plant.

Chrysler Motors couldn’t fire any person at first, so 15 were put on suspension. This is due to agreements made with the United Auto Staff union. Nobody could be terminated without following correct procedure. There were 13 individuals terminated, and two more placed on suspension, as outlined by Automotive News. Chrysler also stated that quality control of builds is automated, and couldn’t be compromised. The UAW insists that those that were terminated aren’t indicative in any way of the quality of the bulk of their members.

No consuming on the job

There is no excuse for going to work intoxicated. Not even executives get a “three martini lunch” anymore. Working with industrial equipment calls for safety be paramount. Showing up intoxicated compromises that safety. Those individuals could have gotten someone killed.
