Drugging taints most recent Tour as Alberto Contador tests positive

Cycling is making news for all the wrong reasons again. Contador has been charged with drugging throughout his 2010 Tour de France victory. In a news conference Thursday, he strenuously denied that he cheated for his 3rd victory within the event. Looking at a 2-year suspension from competitive cycling and loss of his 2010 Tour victory, Contador suggested that ingesting tainted animal meat was the reason for failing the drug test.

Tainted meat held responsible by Contador

July 21 was a terrible day for world's greatest cyclist Contador as he tested positive, right before the Tour de France started on the mountain stage. Wednesday, the International cycling Union released a statement about what was in his 2 urine samples, reports the New York Times. A weight-loss and muscle building drug called clenbuterol was what was found in his system. Thursday, Contador decided to come out and say that meat he had eaten at the hotel had to be drugged with this because he didn't do it himself. He also claimed he couldn't have done better with the substance anyway. He said the amounts found in his samples were too small to matter.

Substances were a part of Contador's past life

The next thing on Contador's list is to clear his name of charges. The International Cycling Union suspended him, reports Cable News Network, from racing for a while. In 2006, the Spanish blood-doping ring has Contador linked right now it, what with the sport having drugging being something most do. He won his first Tour de France in 2007. In 2008 he joined Astana, a team that was banned from the race for doping violations. He won his second Tour title in 2009. Lance Armstrong, a seven-time winner, finished 3rd. Floyd Landis, an American, was the only Tour de France winner that lost his title after positive testing.

Some specialists believe Contador’s claim

Some experts believe Contador’s claim that tainted meat caused his positive drugging examination. Chicken, cows and pigs are given clenbuterol sometimes to speed up the growth process, reports Universal Sports. The substance will stay in 2 places. The liver and muscle tissue are most common. Bodybuilders often burn fat and build muscle with clenbuterol. It is easier to exercise aerobically with the substance too. It gets more oxygen to muscles making it hurt less. Short term, amphetamines can have the exact same effect of it. Dr. Andrew Franklin-Miller is a sports expert. He said that it would not be possible for Contador to be affected by meat with clenbuterol in it.
